MailGate Support Issues

Q. Does MailGate support direct SMTP delivery?
A. MailGate versions 3.5.179 and above (available in the Beta area) allow you to directly deliver external SMTP mail without the need of an ISP's SMTP server.

To enable this feature, do the following:
  1. Click on Gateway | Setup | E-mail tab.

  2. Make sure that the "ISP SMTP Server" field is blank.

  3. Click the "Auth" button and ensure that the drop-down menu is set to "No Authentication".

  4. Click on the DNS tab.

  5. Check the "Enable DNS Lookup" box.

  6. In the "Servers to Use For DNS Lookup" field, enter the IP addresses of the server(s) to be queried for MX record data - typically your ISP's DNS servers. If you're not sure what to put here, contact your ISP, or check their Website for the relevant information.
Note: when using this method of delivery, we strongly advise that you review your security settings to ensure that your system cannot be used as a spam relay. Details of how to do this can be found here.
