MailGate Support Issues Q. How do I set up MailGate with my FTP client? A. Instructions on setting up MailGate with standard FTP clients can be found below: GENERAL NOTE: For FTP to operate correctly with MailGate TCP/IP must be installed and configured correctly on both the MailGate machine and on all Workstations. You will need to know the TCP/IP address or the HOST name of the MailGate server. Also, make sure that the MailGate FTP service is running (Click on Gateway, Setup, and select the FTP tab. Make sure FTP is enabled). The FTP port is usually set to 21, however, check that the port setting on the FTP tab to make sure, as you'll need to refer to this port in the FTP client settings. FTP via Browsers: If your browser has already been configured to use the MailGate HTTP proxy server [see Browser Configuration] then you need do nothing further for FTP to work through the browser. Cute FTP: In CuteFTP, click on the options for your FTP account. Next, click on the Firewall tab, and set the following: Host = IP address of machine MailGate is running on Port = FTP port in MailGate Set the Type to "USER user '@' site" Check the box titled "Enable firewall access" Next, on the connection tab, set it to "Connect to the Internet using a LAN". CUTE FTP V4.2: Click on Edit | Settings. Expand the Connections branch by clicking the "+" sign. Click on the "Firewall" option to the left of the window. Host = IP address of machine MailGate is running on Port = FTP port in MailGate Set the Type to "USER user '@' site" Check the box titled "Enable firewall access" Uncheck the box titled "PASV mode" Next, on the connection tab, set it to "Connect to the Internet using a LAN". Click on the "DUN/LAN" option to the left of the window, and make sure that "Connect to the Internet using a LAN". Internet Neighbourhood: Set the properties for each site to which you wish to connect: Firewall Access - ticked Firewall Access Type - RAPTOR (USER ftpusrname@ftpsite fw_usrnam) Firewall Host Information Firewall - MailGate Host Machine ID Leave Username & Password Blank. Leave Passive Mode unchecked. WS_FTP version 5: When setting up the session in WS_FTP version 5, go to the Firewall tab and complete the following: Host Name - The name or IP address of your MailGate server Use Firewall - Check this box Port - Set this to the same as the port in the MailGate FTP tab set-up FireWall Type - Choose USER with no logon If you do not use port 21 in MailGate, also click on advanced tab and set Remote Port to the same as the MailGate port. WS_FTP version 7: On the firewall tab, do the following: Set the "Host Name" field to the IP address of the machine running MailGate. Set the "Type" drop-down menu to "user with no logon". Set the port to the MailGate FTP port. Click the "Save" button and type "MailGate" into the "Create a Firewall named" field. On the "Host Info" tab, make sure that the "Firewall" drop-down menu is set to point to "MailGate" (as set in step 4 above). WS_FTP version 9: Click on tools | options, then in the window that appears, select the "Firewall" option in the left-hand pane. Click "New". Set the "Name:" field to "MailGate". Set the "Hostname:" field to the IP address of the machine running MailGate. Set the "Type" drop-down menu to "USER with no logon". You can leave the port as "21", unless you have changed the default MailGate FTP port. When you connect to a site, make sure that you click on the "Advanced" button then, on the window that appears, select "Advanced" from the left-hand pane. In the right-hand pane, set the "Firewall" drop-down menu to "MailGate". Click OK. ![]() |
